Nutheim painting school welcomes you to the “Teikn og
Mal i Telemark” (Drawing and painting in Telemark)
courses. During summer, we offer courses in landscape
painting. The courses are run in collaboration with The
Norwegian University Extension and are suitable for
beginners, as well as more advanced painters.
Studies show that 80% of what we experience is based on
what our visual senses perceive. It is therefore
important that we train our ability to use what we see
in our field of vision. By teaching you to understand
motifs, composition and the use of colour and shapes, we
strive to introduce you to the world of the arts. You
will learn how to expand and cultivate your visual
aptitudes in order to find your own style and
expression.
The artist Erlend Grøstad founded the painting school in
1960 and is today run by the painter and sculptor Ellen
Grøstad Barstad.
The school's conceptual basis lies within the classical
and academic art theories of the 20th century, which was
applied by the Norwegian pupils of Matisse and the
so-called "Telemark painters".
